The first generation of the TT has become a milestone in automotive design, an icon. The design adhered to pure geometric lines, embodying a functional purity and austerity harking back to the Bauhaus style of the 1920s. The core motifs were the circle and the curves of the roof line, and front and rear overhangs. This timeless architecture guaranteed that the Audi TT was an eminently recognisable presence out on the roads, and simultaneously gave the development of the entire brand decisive momentum.

For the first two years of production, both front wheel drive and quattro models featured a 180 hp version of this engine. In 2001, a more powerful Quattro model was released which was equipped with a 225 hp engine which shares the same basic design but features a larger turbocharger, an additional intercooler on the driver’s side, forged connecting rods, a dual exhaust, and a few other internals designed to accommodate the increase in turbo boost from roughly 10 psi peak to 15.

New Car: 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Following the release of the face-lifted Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera 4 models late last year, as well as the new Targa and GT3, and then just earlier this month the new 911 Turbo, come the official details and images for the updated 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Porsche has continued its tradition of only implementing minimal changes to the styling of its race-bred GT3 RS, opting to focus on changes taking place under the mildly-revised sheet metal instead.

Described as the “the most sporting 911 yet”, the new 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS comes into the world with the same 3.8-liter naturally aspirated flat six as the regular GT3 but with a healthier 444 horsepower – 35 horsepower up on the outgoing model, and 15 horsepower more than the new GT3. More power, less weight and shorter transmission ratios mean the new RS should be decidedly more aggressive on-track.

The high-revving engine has a specific output of more than 113 horsepower per liter and comes mated to a low-ratio, short-shift six-speed manual gearbox.

Some of the other important changes for the new GT3 RS includes a wider track, both front and rear, as well as an over-sized carbon-fiber GT wing with exposed aluminum supports. To reduce weight even further than the already lithe 2009 model, Porsche engineers have fitted a lithium-ion battery, resulting in a 22-pound weight savings.

The new wider front and rear track is a first for the GT3 RS, and accordingly the wheel arches have been extended to cover the wider stance. Nineteen by nine-inch wide wheels up front and 12-inch wide units in the rear are wrapped in 245/45 and 325/30 Z-rated rubber, respectively.

Sales of the new 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RS start in Germany in January, 2010, with a base price in Europe of €122,400 or about 3,000. Launch dates and pricing for the U.S. haven’t been announced.

2010 Mercedes Benz

Mercedes Benz is marching onward in its future styling direction with the introduction of the 2010 E-class Coupe. The CLK-coupe name disappears and the replacement will be called the E-class coupe.

Naturally, the E-Class coupe draws heavily on the styling of the 2010 E-Class sedan that was unveiled to the press at the Detroit Auto Show. Gone is the familiar four-oval front end. In its place is a sharper more angular nose with four pointy diamond-like, headlamps and LED running lights that peek out from the lower fascia. Unlike the sedan, however, the coupes wear the three prong star in the grille only.

The coupe's profile has changed considerably from the outgoing CLK. The roof is now so curved, you would be hard pressed to balance a ball on it. In fact, flat panels are few and far between, especially with the busy rear quarter panels. Chrome trim encircles the side windows which follow a practically protracted curve along the roof line. Out back, the car's hind quarters are vaguely reminiscent of Audi's A5, an impression only encouraged by the inclusion of LED taillights.

Inside, the E-class coupe is similar to the sedan with the exception of the shifter which resides on the console instead of on the column. There is seating for only four occupants with what appears to be a fairly roomy back seat. The controller for the standard Command multimedia interface is perched directly behind the shifter. A panoramic sunroof is standard as well, along with leather sport seats and dual-zone climate control.

Technology that is bountiful in the sedan, also finds its way into the coupe. Standard equipment includes PRE-SAFE, the crash anticipating safety system, and ATTENTION ASSIST - a fatigue-sensing system - that helps keep drowsy drivers alert. Buyers can also opt for adaptive cruise control, heated and ventilated front seats, and a system that dims the highbeams if they might blind another driver.

When the coupe goes on sale in June two models will be offered, the E350 with a 268-hp 3.5-liter V-6 or the E550 with a 382-hp 5.5-liter V-8. The coupe will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month and a convertible model will make its debut shortly after. Although the CLK had always cost less than the E-class sedan, we're afraid the E-class coupe will cost a bit more than the sedan. We won't know for sure until pricing is announced closer to the car's launch.

2010 Nissan 370Z

Many of the noteworthy improvements found on the 2010 Nissan 370Z are suspension enhancements designed to keep this quick car firmly planted on the track. The new models features a new front strut tower brace, performance dampers, more efficient front springs and more rigid rear coils. These suspension upgrades result in a 40% increase in damping factor on the front of the car and an impressive 140% increase in the rear.

At firt glance the engine is identical to the normal 370Z, but once you factor in a brand new Nismo exhaust system and a high-performance engine control module, you’ll understand where the incredible power boost comes from. 350hp at 7400 rmp means this car is one quick little sucker. The 2010 370z is only available in six-speed manual transmission alongside the infamous rev matching system.

No word on the original equipment tires yet, though the 2009 model did feature staggered fitting Yokohama ADVAN Sport high-performance tires P245/40ZR19 in the front and P285/35ZR19s in the rear. These Y-rated wholesale Yokohama tires were built for speed and a great match for the vehicle last year, so it will be interesting to see what improvements, if any, have been made for the new model.

Consumers can expect the 2010 Nissan 370Z to show up in dealerships sometime in June 2009.

If you were expecting tons of performance changes in the newest version of Mazda’s Mazda 3, you might be a bit disappointed with the 2010 edition. Most of the changed on the car are cosmetic, including a new hood scoop, “wide-eyed” front, and tail/hatch lights. Under the hood things are pretty much the same as they always were, with the FWD Mazdaspeed 3 churning out 260 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. And as always, the car comes with a six-speed manual transmission as the only available option.

Other changes in the latest Mazda 3 involve some chassis tuning and reinforcements that stiffen the car and improve handling. The wide 225/40R18 Dunlop tires are seated on brand new 18 inch wheels and tie the overall look of the vehicle together nicely. Speaking of overall look, the interior is impressive with its new wraparound dash and red carbon fiber accents. The color scheme is also applied to black leather seats with bright red accent stitching.

New E-Class, which will be launched Mercedes-Benz in the spring of 2009, will cost between € 41,590.50 and € 70,269.50 ex-works. Prices for the new E-Class, will therefore remain at the same level as the previous model, despite extensive features, new engines and better technology. Model program for the new E-class on the placing on the market will consist of ten rooms equipped with four, six or eight-cylinder engines which consume up to 23 percent less fuel than before.

Two four-cylinder engine with new models of petrol and diesel injection systems will be introduced in the autumn of 2009. V6 and V8 models also boast as standard equipment in the direct control system and seven-speed automatic transmission with the selector lever on the steering wheel. E 500 eight-cylinder sedan is also equipped with pneumatic suspension and electronically controlled damping system. ELEGANCE and AVANTGARDE design and equipment lines offer more options for special design and functionality in the new E-Class. Ex-works bonuses for executives are at € 1,921.85 € 3,361.75 ELEGANCE and AVANTGARDE - and thus remain unchanged from the previous model, over a wider range of device functions. ELEGANCE line stands out, for example through environmental interior lighting, newly developed seats in the vertical fluting design, Burr-walnut wood trim, and 16-inch alloy wheels in a ten-twin spoke design.

No other car offers such a comprehensive and cleverly coordinated interaction between the state-of-the-art systems to support management. In order to help the driver to use as much as possible of these technologies, Mercedes-Benz offers optional packages containing specific files innovation. To ensure that the systems work perfectly together and ideally complement each other. Package Lane (€ 892.50 ex-works), for example, includes Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist. The first of these two innovations supports the driver when the turn lane to go in, while the other helps them when they intentionally change lanes.

Driver Assistance Package (€ 2,558.50 ex-works) brings together systems from Mercedes-Benz, which actively helps prevent rear-end collisions: DISTRONIC PLUS radar-based system near the cruise control, Brake Assist PLUS, automatic and PRE-SAFE ® brake system. This package also includes a wizard lanes and cul-de-site assistant.

Mercedes-Benz has also put together a package of Light for customers who travel a lot at night. This package consists of Bi-Xenon headlamps, Intelligent Light System, LED day driving lamps, and new adaptive Highbeam Assist. Depending on the model and the functionality in question, Light package costs between € 238 and € 1,689.80 ex-works.

Customers who care a lot about the comfort may be purchased Multicontour Active Seat package for its new E-Class.
